Dog Licenses and Motorized Scooters

2005.06.21

Dog Licenses

Did you recently receive a pink slip regarding dog licenses? Many of your neighbors have. "As part of the NJ State Rabies Control Program, the State requires that all dogs aged 6 months and older must be licensed annually." Additional information is available on the Washington Township website at the following address.

Motorized Scooters

SawyersCreek.org has received Emails from concerned neighbors about the use of motorized scooters, mini cycles and other "toy" vehicles. Users of such vehicles should be aware of two points.

Motorized scooters are illegal for public roads

Generally speaking these "toy" vehicles do not meet State and/or Federal standards for motorcycles and are not certified for use on public roads or even sidewalks. Such illegal usage may result in a ticket and summons in some townships, confiscation of the scooter in other townships.

More information is available on the Washington Township website at the following address.

Motorized scooters are dangerous

There is a reason why children are required to use helmets when riding bicycles and skateboards (and a very good idea for adults as well): a bad fall on concrete can result in massive head trauma, resulting in severe brain damage. Traumatic brain injury is the fourth leading cause of death in this country, and the leading cause of death for those aged between 1 and 44.

The risk is not ameliorated when riding a motorized scooter.
