SawyersCreek.org Website Report for March 2005

2005.04.10

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Storage space and monthly bandwidth usage for March 2005 are 27% and 0.8% of their respective limits; the sharp increase was due to the Egg Hunt digital photos. There were about 24 new regular visitors to the site in March; there are about 90 regular visitors to the site.

DISCUSSION

Bandwidth/disk space usage

  • Total disk space usage = 134.30 MB
  • versus allocation of 500 MB = 26.86% of limit
  • Total bandwith for March 2005 = 325.47 MB
  • versus monthly bandwidth allocation of 40 GB = 0.81% of limit

The sharp increases in disk space usage and bandwidth are from the digital photos from the Egg Hunt posted to and accessed from the website. Although no decision is required now, a few additional neighborhood events with a similar number of digital photos will eventually require a decision on how to handle diminishing disk space:

  • Upgrade the webhost plan for more storage space (increased monthly fees);
  • remove older photos;
  • or decrease the file sizes of older photos (and lose overall resolution of those photos)

The bandwidth charts are rescaled for March 2005, from a KB to MB scale, due to the much larger bandwidth during the month.

The spike in bandwidth usage starting 19 March corresponds to the posting of the digital photos from the Egg Hunt.

Favorites list vs. unique addresses

An estimated 24 users added SawyersCreek.org to their browser's Favorites list. Visitors from 254 unique IP addresses visited SawyersCreek.org. Since most ISPs assign available IP addresses to users as they connect to the Internet, I believe the number of new people actively visiting SawyersCreek.org is closer to 24 than 254.

Cumulatively, there are an estimated 90 regular visitors to the website.

Countries

Out of 325.47 MB total bandwidth for March 2005, all but 985 KB were from IP addresses in the USA. The remainder were from visitors from unknown location, Canada or China, which I assume were due to search robots or spyware originating or bouncing from servers in those countries.
