2005 Egg Hunt Report

2005.03.21

What started out last year as a way to get some neighbors and their families together to celebrate Easter has grown into a Spring festival! This year over 1600 eggs were hidden in the entranceway at Huckleberry and Rogers for the Second Annual Easter Egg Hunt. 164 children signed up to gather hidden eggs, meet the Easter bunny and see a real Fire Truck. The Washington Twp. Police Department D.A.R.E Officer Joe was on hand to share his message of Say No to Drugs and Violence. There were FREE tattoos, and coloring pages, Hot Refreshments for the Adults and The Fire Department gave out Hats and Frisbees. Children who gathered eggs received a gift bag full of candy, chocolate bunnies, licorice, crayons, coloring book, an Easter pencil, a Capri Sun drink and snack cake. Each child received a FREE kids meal donated by Chick-fil-A of the Deptford Mall. Some eggs contained a note for an extra special prize: The lucky children who found those eggs received gift certificates from McDonald's and Blockbuster. No doubt a fun time was had by all in attendance. There we 20 left over gift bags that were donated to Kennedy Memorial Hospital Pediatric Wing. So if you were unable to attend, please know that your child's bag was given to a sick child to help welcome spring.

Later on that evening 25 older kids (Ages 10-14) had a great time finding their eggs hidden in the brush at the Huckleberry entrance with the help of a flashlight! Once it got dark the fun began. The kids spent about 35 minutes trying to find 10 eggs each which proved to be challenging! The older kids found eggs with McDonald's gift certificates and the Grand prize of a movie pass to the United Artist Movie Theater in Turnersville was won by Kristen Mecca of Rogers Pl. After the hunt they also received a gift bag filled with candy, dollar shaped pens from the Commerce Bank a snack cake and drink.

SCHA Secretary Melissa Redrup coordinated the event to perfection! Kudos to everyone who helped make this a special day for our children. Special thanks to: Mark Bersalona (Our Webmaster) for posting all the Easter Bunny Pictures on the website, Robin and Dave Mountford (Our Easter Bunny), George Redrup, Dennis and Kristine Robinson, Susan Sciorillo, Rocco Siravo and family, Judy Waysome and Heather Zaborowski for the countless hours of coordinating this event. Our New Community Manager Ann Driscoll came on her day off to help us out too. Thank you also to all the neighborhood children who volunteered to hide eggs, decorate, set-up and cleanup. We couldn't have done it without all your help.

These special events are designed to help make our development a fun neighborhood. We hope everyone had a great time. Upcoming events include a community Yard Sale (4/23), a Spring Clean up, 4th of July Bike Parade(7/4, 11am) and a Halloween Parade. All of these events need volunteers to help out or they will have to be cancelled. If you enjoyed the Egg hunt please know that a lot of planning went into the event and help is desperately needed. Please send us an email with your name and address to help out with these next events. We need you! Contact Kristine at treasurer@sawyerscreek.org or Melissa at secretary@sawyerscreek.org.

Happy Spring!
